Presbyopia
Presbyopia occurs when

the eye's lens loses its ability to focus on
objects that are near. Often confused with farsightedness, presbyopia is
an
age-related condition caused by a loss of flexibility in the lens and
a weakening of the surrounding muscles. This is different from
astigmatism,
nearsightedness and
farsightedness, which are related to the shape of
the eyeball and caused by genetic factors, disease, or trauma.
It usually begins to affect people in their early 40s. People experience blurred vision at near points, such as when reading, sewing or working at the computer. There's no getting around it, it will happen to everyone at some point in life, even those who have never had a vision problem before. requiring the use of glasses or bifocals for
reading. Unlike farsighted patients, people with presbyopia will not
loose their distance vision (unless they develop an eye disease).
