Our Staff Doctors

Two wonderful staff doctors assist Dr. Dougherty, who personally does all of the LASIK surgery procedures. The staff doctors assist with pre-operative evaluations, consultations and post-operative care services.

Julie Hurd, O.D.

Dr. Hurd provides patients at Dougherty Laser Vision's Camarillo surgery center with preoperative evaluation and postoperative care services. Having had the LASIK procedure performed on her own eyes, Dr. Hurd is uniquely able to relate to her patients' questions and concerns.

Dr. Hurd earned her undergraduate degree in psychobiology at UCLA, and her O.D. (with distinction) from the Southern California College of Optometry. She performed internships at UCLA's Jules Stein Eye Institute and the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Los Angeles. Her research on a range of ophthalmology issues has been published in leading medical journals.

Dr. Hurd also served as president of the TriCounty Optometric Society, and was honored by her peers as the Young Optometrist of the Year.

Stephanie Kashiwada, O.D.

Based at Dougherty Laser Vision’s Los Angeles office, Dr. Kashiwada provides pre and post-operative care for all types of refractive surgery patients, as well as routine ophthalmic care for patients with glaucoma and anterior/posterior segment disease.

Her experience includes treating patients in a range of clinical care settings, from Vandenberg Air Force Base and the Sacramento Veterans Affairs Hospital to UC Berkeley’s Meredith Morgan Eye Center.

Dr. Kashiwada completed her residency in primary care/hospital-based optometry at the Sepulveda VA Ambulatory Care Center, where she focused on treating diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, glaucoma and other posterior segment diseases.

Dr. Kashiwada earned her O.D. at UC Berkeley’s School of Optometry. She is a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society (which promotes academic excellence in optometry worldwide), and her clinical research on choroidal folds has been published in the journal Clinical and Refractive Optometry.
